Conscious and sub-conscious
The brain is considered to be composed of two parts. Conscious and sub-conscious.
The conscious mind is the part of us through which we perceive all awareness. It is our objective, thinking mind. The analytical part of our brain that deciphers all of the information we receive through our senses. With which, we make conscious present moment decisions.
The sub-conscious mind is our repository. Through time, as our experience of consciousness grows, it is the sub-conscious that facilitates and embeds all of our knowledge and learning.
The conscious mind is considered to be critical and logical. Its function is to make decisions to help us survive. The sub-conscious mind is considered less critical or analytical. It is the part of the brain that looks after our automatic bodily functions. We are often unaware of it. Control of our breathing is a good example. It is the part of our brain that we as hypnotherapists are trained to access in order to help us reprogram or re-align thoughts and habits which no longer serve us best.
